  3. Miss Cat thank you for asking. My advice to a new author would be the following:
Be sure to check and and all information if you are seeking to publish on your own with any on line or other group setting your work into print. Be sure you understand what you are reading or being advised what will take place. If you are not sure ask! If the company is legit then they will have no problem taking the time to explain. Ask for copies of everything. Reread the smallest detail to be sure you do understand. Every author is excited wanting and dreaming of their work being placed for all to see, Please take a step back and be sure everything should be as you want others to see your work. Excitement can take over and once errors are placed it can never be erased. Make sure you have monies for someone to look over your work or at least a family member or a friend that will help make corrections needed.
On line Publishers are good however they too are a company looking to stay alive as well as any other company. You your self have to watch over you.
If sending your work to publishers be sure your work is copy written! As some may not even look at your work and toss it away and as identity theft happens all the time so can your work be taken. U.S. Copyright.com This may cost a little extra monies but will help you in the long run.
When searching for a publisher on line or off line always be sure to look at who is going to best serve you not the packages they have to offer. Saving a dollar is needed for grocery's but not when your placing your life's dream on the line. Take the time to research all and see which is right for you.
The following steps should be on every authors list:
#1 Make sure your work is with out error before sending it to any one. Have your work copy written.
#2. Draw up a list of publishers and their history.
#3. Take the time to write down any question(s) you can think of, no matter how small they seem to be, type in authors on google or yahoo, look over some of the letters and or advise from other authors.
#4. Do not be tempted to go with the first publisher who is offering a special deal right off the bat, take the time to speak with all on your list before going with one company. Let your heart lead you not your mind telling you to save a dollar.
#5. Be sure the company chosen is willing to place all in writing for you. Even the smallest detail needs to be read and reread.
I do hope this helps answer your question as well as any new author coming on board. Thank you for taking the time to post your questions.
A note to everyone reading: Never be ashamed of your dreams. Dreams are what leads you to be who you are.

  4. Great answer! As a freelance photographer I am all to familiar with the importance of copyright. When I enter into any contract I read it, put it down for a week and then reread. It can get very overwhelming! I always tell people to really trust your inner self, (the little voice we most often don't listen) when you are calm you will know which is a good plan or if it is "to good to be true" plan! Thanks again for your answer!!
